IV.1.1 Sunspots through the solar cycle



You will find below the animation files required to do the problem (1.1) in chapter 1 of part IV of the course. Each file is an animation of one year worth of reconstructed Mt Wilson sunspot data, listed by year.

Spots are plotted on a heliocentric coordinate latitude/longitude coordinate grid projected on the plane of the sky. The grid increments in longitude is 7.5 degrees. The latitudes coordinate lines are plotted at latitudes 0, 15 and 30 degrees (N and S). On days when no data is available the yellow "DATE" label at the bottom of the frames is left out.
