ASTR-7500: Animations, Section II.3.5

Magnetic transport of angular momentum

The following are animations of the D1 and D3 spin-down solutions, covering the first 1Myr of evolution. Both solutions have a poloidal field strength of 1 Gauss.

Both animations are in the same format, as shown on the image below. Solutions are displayed in a meridional quadrant, with the rotation axis vertical and coinciding with the left quadrant boundary, and the equatorial plane with the lower, horizontal boundary. The upper, circular boundary is the solar surface interface. The white lines are contours of constant azimuthal velocity (u_phi), normalized to the equatorial value at t=0 with contour values 0.005, 0.01, 0.02, 0.05, 0.11, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9, 1.0. The contours are overlaid on an intensity image of the toroidal field strength. The color scale covers the interval -1000 kG < B_phi < 1000 kG, and covers logarithmically six orders of magnitudes in its positive and negative ranges (negative for tan-yellow, positive for red-blue). All solutions started on the ZAMS with zero toroidal field and normalized rotation rate of 50 times the present-day solar rate.

Orange and yellow lines are poloidal fieldlines. In the D1 configuration, the thicker orange line delimits the dead zone. The red line corresponds to the core-envelope interface.
